15 May 2009 | Launch of BNP Paribas Fortis, the new brand name of Fortis Bank, in Belgium and later on in other countries.

2008-09 | Confronted with a systemic global financial crisis, the Dutch banking activities were sold to the Dutch government on 3 October 2008. Fortis Bank became 99.93% owned by the Belgian government on 10 October 2008 and will ultimately be acquired by BNP Paribas.
